Tutorial on using Gesso and other textures on your layouts..

For my September giveaway, please go HERE

Hey everyone! Once a month over at Kaisercraft, all the Design Team members are scheduled for a post which goes up on a Tuesday called Tuesday Tip. My post was up last Tuesday, and I thought I would share it with you here since a lot of you comment on the way I add gesso and some other textures on my layouts.

I have started using lots of gesso and other textures on my layouts and it truly is very very easy to create this look . In fact, there are not many rules involved and the messier the better!
I have used paper from Sears & Son for this example. Sears & Son is available at The Scrapbook Store HERE
1. Start with your base paper. I chose this neutral colour paper from Sears & Son. You need white gesso, a moulding/crafting spatula and gauze. This is medical gauze that you can get from a chemist . You can buy a whole piece in squares for only a few dollars. I like the squares because they usually are the perfect size for my layouts with not much cutting involved.

2. Spread out and stretch your gauze square and fray it so it looks messy.

3. Dip your spatula into the gesso bottle and spread in even lines over the section you want covered. You will need quite a bit.

4. Place your gauze on top of the gesso to hold it in place. No glue is needed as the gesso will dry up and keep hold it to your layout. With your spatula spread out the gesso some more.
5. While still wet, spray the area with some glimmer mist, preferably a darker shade but still matching your papers. Do not touch it and wait a few minutes for it to set in.

6. Now you will need some corrugated cardboard. This is simply the cardboard that your orders come in, the 12×12 inch pizza boxes that stores use to send you goods. Just rip it randomly and remove the flat layer of paper to reveal the corrugated cardboard underneath.

7. Place it on top of your gesso/gauze/misted area with some glue to keep it down.

8. Using your spatula , add more gesso on top of the corrugated cardboard and finish it off with some mist again. You now need to leave it for a bit of time, maybe 15-20 minutes for it to dry before continuing with your layout.

And here is a layout that I created using this technique using Sears & Son last month..

Kaisercraft Materials Used: Sears  & Sons patterned paper – Trilby (P896), Sears & Sons Collectables (CT720), Sears & Sons 12×12 Sticker Sheet (SS144), Sears & Sons Rub Ons (RB969), Sears & Sons Playing Cards (EM984).
Other – gauze, corrugated cardboard, string, gesso

I am sure there are many ways out there to do this! Probably much better than mine! LOL! But I find this way quick and easy, and not much thinking goes into it to be honest LOL! The messier the better.
Have a great week ahead everyone :)
