Get Picky / May Nook + Card Patterns

This is my second layout as part of my Guest Designer spot at Get Picky in May.

The May Inspiration Challenge is to create a layout about YOURSELF, using the following quote in whichever way that inspires you.  You can focus on how this may apply to your life, where you're at  - at the moment, family...etc....just that the layout is about you!

I struggle to find pictures of my self. So apologies if you have seen this one before.

Here is a close up of this lovely chipboard from Scrapmatts, which the Design Team and Guest Designers at Get Picky were sent in May. Lucky US! Thank you Scrapmatts!

The rest of the materials are the May My Scrapbook Nook Kit ....BasicGrey Hello Luscious papers, stickers, etc. and some flowers from my stash.

THANK YOU so very much to the girls at Get Picky for inviting me to be part of their team in May. I appreciate it SO much. I had a blast!!!

Please head on on here to see the rest of the Design Team projects and full details on the challenge. The winner of this challenge gets to come back next month as a Guest Designer!

Before I go, here is my entry for Card Patterns #117 . Actually, here is the sketch first...

I have used Webster's Pages Ladies and Gents paper, Webster's Pages flower and not too sure what brand the chipboard key is. I painted it and went over it with Glossy Accents.

Have a nice day everyone.

The Studio Challenges, The ScrapCake , Webster's Pages and Prima Palette/Product Pick

Hi again! Second time I am posting today. A few things to get through before a BUSY week starts again.

First up, I wanted to share with you the latest LAYOUT challenge that went live at The Studio Challenges...This time the challenge is to use this sketch.

Here is my interpretation of this sketch...

This is my youngest, Ioanna. She was seriously born with an innate confidence and determination that is, I believe, SUCH a gift to have. Confidence is something that you either have or you do not. It is something you are either born with or you are not. I see kids at school ALL the time, struggle with inner confidence and my heart goes out to them...We had our Public Speaking competition at school on Friday, and this was SO evident there. You could just see the natural born public speakers and the ones that struggled but TRIED anyway. I was SO proud of them. Giving it a go anyway and HOW good what that have felt afterwards?

Ioanna is VERY similar to me. As a child I was just as she is now. Very tough, zero fear and a belief that I could do anything I wanted. And not much has changed to this day. I still do not take NO for an answer..I do not accept finality. I do not accept that anything is IMPOSSIBLE. So I sincerely hope she will continue to be this way too.

Annnnnyyyywayyyyyyyy...lots to get through so I better stop chatting!

I have used again the May kit from Swirlydoo's, which included that gorgeous paper from Glitz Design Laced With Grace , Dusty Attic birdcage chipboard, Petaloo flowers and that stamp from Tattered Angels that I have used to stamp the background. Here is a close up of that...

I misted the background and then splattered some paint and stamped it.

I also added something so beautiful to this layout...here is a close up..
It is this AMAZINGLY gorgeous fan flower that is handmade by a VERY talented lady called Chantelle Huizenga . She has the MOST gorgeous etsy shop called Creative Bits  and she released these a few weeks back! I loved them when I saw them on line and LOVED them more in real life. They are amazing and their quality is superb! You will see more of them...

Anyway, if you head on over here you will see a few more gorgeous layouts from my fellow DT members at The Studio Challenges.

Moving right along to my next few cards...the first one is for the current Prima Product Pick and Palette. I HAVE never entered here before even though I am addicted to Prima. Anyway!

Here is the palette..
PPP 05-01-2011

and my card...

Next Up is this card that I created for Webster's Pages current challenge at InspireMe, which was to create a Mother's/Father's Day card and include WP flowers/stamps on the front.

I have also combined this with the first ever challenge at The ScrapCake blog. Do you know about this place?  YOU NEED TO CHECK IT OUT! This is the blog that features/prodcues Karola Witzak's newest lines. They have not hit Australia yet but hopefully should be here soon but until then I am hoping, hoping, hoping this little card will win their prize which is their 2 collections. They are SO SO beautiful.  Fingers crossed... :o)

Anyway..the challenge there was to create a project using The ScrapCake colours and their cupcake motif

So here is my card..

You are able to use ANY products at The SCrapCake challenge, so I used Webster's Pages Sweet Season, which included that yummy looking cupcake. The chipboard word 'Mum' is from Imaginarium Designs . I inked it again and went over it with Glossy Accents.

Pheeewwwwwwwww...we made it to the end..LOL!

Apologies for the long post ...but still have more DT stuff to upload in the next few days... :o)

Take care. 'till next time, Nadia.

Let's Capture These Sketches #33 + some more

Hey there everyone.

A new card sketch is up at Let's Capture These Sketches, and this is what it looks like.

Here is my example. I have used all Glitz Design Laced with Grace for just about everything here.

Did you know that Let's Capture These Sketches also has layout sketch challenges as well? If you are ever stuck for inspiration and need a good sketch to follow, why don't you head on over to the site. There is a new card or layout sketch every week.

I was lucky to get some more Glitz Design papers and bits and pieces in my May Swirlydoos kit . It was loaded with Laced with Grace and  I did tell you a couple of weeks ago that I have found a new love in Glitz Design!! I am also just with the brightly pink Maya collection, which I won a whole collection of about 2 months ago at Swirlydoo's for their monthly sketch challenge. So I am loving, loving, LOVING Glitz Design right now.

Did you know that Glitz Designs have a monthly challenge? This is their current challenge
So I am entering this card in this challenge.

.........................................................................................................................................

Before I go, here is a quick layout that I made with Glitz papers for May's sketch challenge at Swirlydoo's, based on this sketch.

Swirlydoos Grandma's Garden Sketch by: Beggahuna

Just a very quick one while I had a spare 5 minutes late last week.

I have made a further 2 layouts with Laced With Grace which you will see in the coming days.

Take care everyone :o)

Color Combos Galore #194

Hi there everyone..

THANK GOD its Friday! I got back from school a little while ago and luckily my little one is having a nap! So I can do I quick post about the newest challenge to go up at Color Combos Galore..#194 looks like this...

and my example looks like this...

The extra challenge this week is to include NUMBERS on your projects. 23/7/94 is when Sam and I first met...but it really is SUCH a long story of how we came to be, that honestly NO ONE really knows. So I couldnt write too much or then the kids will ask too many questions when they see this one day!

I have used Echo Park For the Record..for pretty much everything on this layout. I bought a whole heap of it  after using up pretty much everything I had of it over the last few weeks. So ladies...if you have a bit of For The Record left then this is your chance to use it up. The colours are perfect for the palette.

I know that sometimes the colours look a little off from the Color Combos palette. But I think that we all understand that the colours are indeed somewhat distorted from screen to screen, or when you print or photograph, upload, edit etc etc. So as long as you try to stay as close as possible I think you will be OK.

Oh and dont forget you are able to include white/kraft/black too, when creating for Colour Combos Galore....

And here is a quick card that I made also.

Have a great weekend.

Bird Is The Word + more from the May Nook kit.

A new challenge is up at Bird Is The Word..

The challenge this time is to use one of these words in your title or journalling LIFE/LIVE/LIVING. Remember that you can create a layout, card or altered item.

I have also designed a sketch for this challenge. This is for inspiration use only. You do not need to use this sketch to qualify for a prize, but we just thought we would give you some more inspiration. I also give these sketches to the Bird Is The Word design team early, and some of them use them to base their projects on.

This is my layout..

based on this sketch...

I have used more of my May Nook kit.

Papers/stickers/buttons/die cuts are from Basic Grey Hello Luscious and you will also get that gorgeous Webster's Pages flower in the May kit as well.

Yeah Yeah..SOOOO cliché I know...how boring! But I believe in God..and I believe he sent this family to me.  I dont think anything happens by chance in life..so that's it! I love the life/family God chose for me :o)

Oh by the way if you like the look of this kit, you can win one right now at Once Upon A..Sketch

Take care!

Echo Park

Hi there everyone.

A lot of people ask me to explain how I put a page together, and just last month I had a class over at the Nook explaining just that. So I thought I would post the instructions here..you might have seen this layout before, so let me show you how I put it together using April's kit from My Scrapbook Nook

I will also take this opportunity to show you the rest of the projects  I created with that kit (even if I have done so before), as it was primarily full of Echo Park ForThe Record  and Echo Park currently have a Fresh Faces Campaign. Read all about it here

OK so lets start with the mini tutorial..

This is the end result. I find it easier to understand instructions when I have the end product in front of me so I hope you are the same as me.

First thing I do is mat the sheet with the decorative border onto the green sheet and cut out the following papers to the sizes I want. Then I machine stitch the edges with a yellow thread.

Next I position everything without sticking it down...

Because it is looking a little bland to me, I punch out some more decorative edges using a Martha Stewart deep edge punch. I add these to the edges of the blue long rectangle shape down the middle. I also cut the number strip and stick it to the side, and use thread to circle the No#4 as my layout is about my daughters age.

Next I mat the photo on some of the yellow paper and ink the edges with black ink to make them pop

Now I start to stick the bases down and I wanted to show you that I stick these 3D squares behind my photo to again make it pop and give it dimension.

I start to work on my title, and again use some 3D dots to make part of the title stand out

Next, I use a black felt pen to trace around my title. With such a busy layout the title can be lost..

I fussy cut around one of the journalling blocks/spots

and journal directly on it..

I then start to create my layers and details using the various sticker flowers and other pictures from the patterned papers that all came with the kit. I maximise the kit by cutting out a LOT of the prints from the papers. I also stick them on to scrap cardboard and cut around it so it sits better when I stick it down

From there I keep on building the clusters and layers...

That is it. What do you think? I hope it was clear enough for you.

Now let me show you the rest of the layouts and cards I created with the April kit and Echo Park- For The Record

For this first one, I used an artisan shaped template that I had to trace and cut the  Lace Stripes paper. Then once I machine stitched the edges , I stuck onto the black side of the Advertisement paper.

I then got out my trusted Tim Holtz Tattered Florals die, and created this blue flower out of Fancy Floral paper. I went over the edges with dimensional pearls to give it a bit more definition.

I then used lots of bits from the Element Stickers, and backed them with cardboard and 3D dots to create yet one more flower. Here you can also see the Off The Record alphas I used to create the title, as well as a cut out from the Noteworthy paper, which had journalling spots on the back.

Again, more layering and fussy cutting using Element Stickers and the Tim Holtz die.

On to my 3rd layout. This is probably my fave out of all of them. I LOVE the photo! I have written some journalling on the back of this to remind them both that they love each other...or was that to remind me? LOL!

Well anyway...

Can you tell yet that I love flowers? LOL! It is indeed my signature style or at least something you will find in ALL my projects. The above photo shows A LOT of fussy cutting from the paper Stamp Of Approval which has those beautiful red floral patterns that I cut out printed all over it.  I have also cut out detailed flowers from Apron Strings and Table Cloth and used more Element Stickers to create these flowers.

Here you can see some more of the Off The Record alphas I have used for my title, as well as more fussy cutting. I also matted my photo onto a cut out from Noteworthy

So there you have it. I hope I have inspired you in some way and I hope you learnt something about my style here.

'till next time, Nadia.
