Bird Is The Word- January 30th Challenge

Good morning to everyone out there and happy Monday! It is going to be a most beautiful day here in Sydney today and we are off to the park for one last playdate with Maria Elena's little friends before they all start kindergarten tomorrow. She doesnt start school until next year so she will be left behind, as all her friends are 1 year older. Poor thing!

So I am quickly posting this before I head out for the rest of the day.

A new word is up at the Bird Is The Word challenge blog. This time the word is LISTEN. You need to include this word in your title.

Here is my Design Team layout. I created this one with my Tidbitz In Time January kit that I told you a few posts back I was working with.

Pink Paislee - Parisian Anthology papers, tickets, clear stamps, alphas and journalling cards. Prima flowers, canvas tag and bling swirl.

The random words on the page are from the Parisian Anthology stamp set and some others are Kaisercraft.

Thats a Hambly screen overlay at the back of the photo which I cut in half to extend it past the width of the photo. The half frame on the edge of the page is again from the Parisian Anthology stamp set. That beautiful black felt butterfly is a gift from my friend Bente Fagerberg who I was doing a product swap with for the last few months.

That is a Maya Road chipboard frame I inked teal and a Jenni Bowlin butterfly.

Maria Elena was mesmerised by the older girls dancing at her first ever dance concert rehearsal in November. She had that look in her eye...a bit doubtful, a bit anxious but also a bit overwhelmed. I want for her to know exactly what I wrote in this page...that something appealing and exciting to the eyes isn't always the right thing for you. At the end of the day, you have to listen with your heart and with your conscious to do what is right for you.

Don't forget to head on over to the  Bird Is The Word challenge blog to be inspired by the other Design Team members awesome layouts and check out the February kit which has just been released by Tidbitz In Time.

OK..off to get ready for the park. Hope you have a nice day wherever you are and whatever it is you are doing.

'till next time, Nadia.

My **exciting** news and THANKS!!!

Hi there everyone! Hope you are well.

Before I get onto some news that I'd like to share, I'd just like to say a HUGE thanks to each and everyone of you that left a comment in my last post about the 'dummy' issue. I am overwhelmed with the kindness and interest you showed and I read each comment not once but twice! Thank you for making me feel human..thanks to those mummies that have been there already and told me that she'll be OK even if she has the dummy a little longer. Thanks for all your advice!

I know people come here to see scrapbooking related stuff, so I appreciate you all taking the time to comment on something personal.

I am happy to report, that she is currently enjoying her afternoon nap, without any fuss! NO FUSS!!! She also just gives me the dummy as soon as she wakes up and says 'its just for sleep mummy'. So that's much better than when she wanted it ALL day!

Ok Ok Ok...now onto my news..

I am beyond THRILLED, EXCITED, HONOURED and ..and...and..just HAPPY really, to tell you that I was asked to be on the Design Team for.........

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!

You can see my announcement here.
I have been dying to tell you all since Janet Perafan-Babar,  Creative Director and Founder of Colour Combos Galore asked me a couple of weeks ago but today I can share with you my news and show you my first ever layout as part of the Design Team for Inspiration Board #177 which is now live.

So without further delay...here is this weeks Inspiration Board

and here is my take on it

I have used here a Kaisercraft birdcage which I inked black and the key is the 'metal' requirement this week.

I have actually lifted the middle part of the cut paper with 3D dots..so in real life it has more dimension.

Here are I have used  Maya Road transparent doily and a fabric doily.

The background paper is Pink Paislee Parisian Anthology ink resist paper which I inked with Tim Holtz Distress Ink - Broken China.  The other requirement for this week was lace, which I used a Prima one here and flowers which..if anyone knows me would know that I am addicted to all flowers but especially Prima flowers. So that was no challenge for me to use at all. The chipboard swirl above is Dusty Attic.

And using the same colour combination, I also made a card which you can do too. You are allowed to create a card or a layout but as long as you stay close to the colour palette.

So happy to be joining this team of wonderful and talented people.

Be sure to go on over and check out..

COLOUR COMBOS GALORE

You will most definitely be inspired to be pushed out of your comfort zone.

Take a moment to go though the gallery and see the amazing talent there from ALL OVER THE WORLD. There is a daily favourite chosen out of all the uploaded projects in the gallery and a Featured Member announced each week!

Thats all for me. Its nearing the end of the month and I will be back in early February to show you ALL my DT layouts I have been busy creating!!

Until then, its goodbye for now!

Get Picky - January Sketch Challenge #4

HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY to all my fellow Australians. It sure is a warm one here in Sydney. Nice to be indoors with the air condition on since about 8:30am.
Here is my take on Get Picky's sketch for this month. It was a double layout, but I don't do doubles too well. So I flipped it to its side and this is what I came up with.

based on this sketch...

Pink Paislee alphas, Glitz designs Papers and journalling stickers, Petaloo red flower and Prima leaves.

Prima lace, another Petaloo flower and more Prima leaves, Glitz Design sticker.

So ..a couple of posts back I told you that we had tried to take the dummy away from my little one. Well...almost 3 weeks later..I caved in. I just couldn't do it anymore..
The rest of the day was fine, but when it came to her bedtime, especially the middle of the day sleep..well..she became so out of control that she would almost trash her room. Unfortunately for her, we decided to take the dummy away the same day we took the rails off her cot. The reason for that was because she was almost climbing over them and was SO dangerous. I thought we'd be able to deal with both of these at the same time but I was wrong. She saw this as an opportunity to go wild.  She would run around in her room for the whole time she was supposed to be sleeping...we're talking about 2 1/2 hours.  .

We took all the toys out of her room..that just made her go to the closet and take ALL her clothes and shoes out. She'd go into her drawers and take all the creams we had in there and spread them all over her.

As any mum out there would know, if they go for the first 2.3 years of their lives having a solid 2 1/2  to 3 hour sleep EVERYDAY and then suddenly miss out on that sleep...well..they get more and more out of control as the day wears on.

ANY mum would understand that many consecutive days of this wears you and your patience very very thin. NOTHING worked. You have to understand that my little one NEVER exhibited this behaviour. Sure, as a 2 year old she is active etc. but this was OUT OF CONTROL.

So on Monday..in my most desperate hour and after thinking I had thrown all the dummies out, I found one just under the seat of the car...and when we went inside and I put her down to sleep, I gave in and against ALL that I know to be correct.. I gave it to her. You know what she did? After looking surprised she took it and her little bear..turned to her side and even though it took about 45 minutes, she stayed in her bed, talked a bit to her self and finally went to sleep. And has been doing so for 2 full days now.

Everything in the house is calm again, and I don't feel guilty for giving it back. We have made a deal that she will only have it in her sleep..which is really only to fall asleep because as soon as she does it drops out of her mouth anyway.

Maybe we can try again in a little while, but until then I have had to do whatever it took to keep me sane.

OK...essay over. Have a good day wherever you are.

Bo Bunny and Pretty Petals....

Hi there friends!

I wanted to share with you this layout that I completed for a sketch challenge over at Bo Bunny. This is my layout

based on this sketch

I have used Bo Bunny's Olivia papers, stickers, letters, chipboard and die cuts, together with some misting in the background and some Prima flowers and some punched out butterflies.

This misting technique is awesome and I have used it on a few layouts before. I cut a paper doily in half and lightly stuck it down when I wanted this effect and used Glimmer Mist directly on top to get this effect. I love this look!

Lastly I want to bring your attention to this beautiful tissue paper flower that I used here that is from Pretty Petals. As you know I am part of the Creative Team over there and Vicky, the owner, sent us a box full of everything she has to offer..Lucky me!!!

Now the exciting part is that Pretty Petals now has a store!!! That means that you can buy these at any time rather than wait for them to be released.

But this is the most exciting part:

To celebrate the opening of the Pretty Petals store one lucky shopper has a chance to win everything in the store!! Yes you heard me right! So make sure you pop by and check out the grand opening bargains and just by placing an order you will be put in the draw to win one of everything in the store.
Pretty Petals also ship anywhere in the world!!!

Its all Greek to me...

Good morning to everyone..I hope this post finds you well.

A couple of months back I was extremely excited (to say the least) to discover that the scrapbooking sensation had hit Greece, my country of birth. Not only that, but there are a few challenge sites as well and today I want to share with you a couple of layouts I submitted to them.

Remember I told you a few posts back I was working with the Tidbitz In Time January kit?Well I can just show you these 2 layouts because the other couple I did I cant share with you yet as they are for Design Team commitments.

Here is the first one which is for Get Creative. The challenge this month was:

A layout with the title

Goodbye 2010
or
Hello 2011
So I decided to go with Goodbye 2010. 2010 was a particularly difficult year for me. Without going into too much detail lets just say I'm glad it is over.
This layout has no photo and is only the second layout I have ever completed without a photo. I really couldn't find the right photo. Because this layout was about be, I really felt that no photo was needed.

I painted a Pink Paislee Parisian Anthology paper with yellow paint and the letters are from the same line which I stuck randomly all over the page. The black corrugated cardboard was the box the letters were in.

The second one is for the Greek challenge blog Scarpbooking In Greece challenge #13. This month the Guest Designer was Lisa Saunders who is super talented and also on The Studio Challenges Design Team with me.

So the challenge was to use paint creatively on your layout. Here I have splattered it on the background and also painted my letters yellow.

It is a photo of my scrap area. What you see there in the background is it!!! Just my desk and a shelf to the the left and to the right. I dont have a huge area ....and believe it or not I dont have many supplies that sit there for weeks and months. I really use everything up.

All you see in these 2 layouts came from the kit and even though the kit was Teal/Black themed I decided to create something really different and go against the given! But I should be able to share with you soon the other 2 layouts that I made with the teal/black combo!

till next time, Nadia.

Cosmo Cricket January Challenge.

Here is a quick layout that I did for Cosmo Cricket's current challenge .

The requirement was to scrap a page about January. Your January..whatever that means to you. Well it has been 6 days, 3 hours and 25 minutes since my youngest has been without a dummy..and well...it has been very eventful! Considering she is only 2.3y.o and lately wanted it ALL the time, I think she's done well. She stopped asking for it after 2 days. Not bad I say! But the sleeping...oh sleep time is the worst. It takes her about 1 and a half hours to fall asleep during her day and night sleep. We have seriously started resembling the Super Nanny....lol

Anyway, all this has made for one eventful January of 2011 which is indeed a milestone not to be forgotten..

I have used the all popular Circa 1934 line.

And here is the journalling. I wanted to write a lot because I really wanted to tell her the story of what happened. Maybe one day when she has children of her own she'd like to know how we dealt with it.

Bye for now.

And one more thing..its my nameday today! Most of you wouldn't know that my name is Athanassia in Greek and today I celebrate my name day. It is pretty big in Greece!

Bird Is The Word January 16th Challenge...

A new challenge has been posted by Wendy at the Bird Is The Word blog. We had some awesome entries for the January 2nd challenge and cannot wait to see what you create this time. Thank you to all that took part in the first challenge and the winner of that one will be announced shortly over at the blog.

So this time the word is 'SHINE' . You have to use this word in your title. If you head on over to the blog you will see the Design Team examples as well as mine which is this one here..

All the patterned papers and chipboard stickers and borders are My Minds Eyes Holly Jolly collection which I got in the December My Scrapbook Nook kit.

Then I added a Prima vine, and some Lily Bee design rub ons (they have THE best rubs ons!). Also that circular accent is a chipboard shape from My Minds Eye which I added a punched scallop circle and then a Pink Paislee Artisan Elements circle and on top of that a Prima flower centre.

Here is a close up of some more Prima leaves and flowers.

So, I hope I've inspired you a little to give this challenge a go. And remember, it is open internationally and its a random draw!

I also got in the mail my Tidbits In Time January kit from Wendy which has now SOLD OUT! Wow! It was an awesome kit. But anyway this is what it looked like when I opened it ...

Who wouldn't be inspired to work with THAT?  Things are so much easier when your supplies are already coordinated. I am working with this kit right now and will show you my layouts as soon as I can.

'till next time, Nadia.

Guest Designer..

Hi everyone!

I was very kindly asked a little while back to be Guest Designer by Irma for a challenge that she runs every so often on her blog called Random Inspiration Challenge. The theme this month is 'Inspired by Fashion' and the challenge is to create a layout inspired by the following images...

I created this layout using a very elegant picture of my daughter. As I said on Irmas blog, I was instantly drawn to the image of the woman and that she is a 'lady'. My daughter does have ladylike ways. She is very soft and feminine and a real 'girl'. She likes fashion and is interested in her appearance at even just 4 years old.

I guess I have something to do with it too, because from very early on I have tried to teach her to be presentable and look after her clothes, her things, and her appearance in general. I guess I have certain ideas about how a lady should behave, talk, dress etc etc and this is important to me. I am old school like that.

So I feel the need to teach both my daughters these things and so far they are responding. Oh how I wait for the day they are in their teens and decide to go goth! LOL..When they decide to rebel against everything I have taught them. ...Oh ...so looking forward to it.

Anyway..enough talk. Here is my layout.

I think this layout is probably one of my top 3 favourites. I love that picture and I love the colours which I have tried to match to the ones in the inspiration photo.

I have used Websters Pages Lifes Potrait line. Can I confess here that I am truly and utterly in love with Websters Pages? I love everything they produce. They have such quality papers, embellishments etc.

I also used here a Prima necklace. Have you seen those yet? These are actual necklaces you can wear. They have faux pearls at the ends. I have bought about 10 of these and have made headbands for my daughters too. You can see this link here for further info.

The alphas are also from the Life's Potrait Line. The paper is a die cut from the same line that I matted on glittery cardboard.

And here I have use a Pink Paislee Artisan Circle..

So that's my inspiration piece. If you head on over and decide to take part in this challenge, there is also a great gift up for grabs. And again this is open to international residents.

You will find all the info you need here.

Hope you are having a nice day!

Nadia.

You still have time..

...to join us over at Bird Is The Word for our January 1st Challenge.

Bird is the Word

A published layout by my good friend Irma Peredne who I have mentioned here a few times. Yep..I have friends in high places lol...and you should check out her blog, because she is super talented and I will be Guest Designer there in a short while AND she's having a giveaway too.

I guess...

..its only human to be flattered when someone big appreciates your humble little layouts. Right? So when 2 of my layouts were featured here on the Cosmo Cricket blog today as stand alones and I get 2 personal emails from one of Cosmo Cricket's owners telling me they loved my layouts and that I should go over and check their blog, its still only human to feel proud and to feel noticed right?

And when you are featured here and here on the Crate Paper blog 2 days in a row amongst such talented people who I have admired for so long, and you get such beautiful comments from people who had to choose their favourite amongst all the layouts, its only human to have your spirits lifted and to feel ..well...to just feel good.?

Or when your layout is hand picked by Janet Perafan-Babar-Creative Director and Founder of Color Combos Galore as Today's Gallery Fave here , its still ok to feel as though you are on a roll and nohing can stop you? (LOL!)
Because I do feel good...I do feel flattered...I do feel proud and noticed. And even if this feeling is just for a day I think it just makes me human. Right?

Color Combos Galore #174

Just another quick post for today. Here is my take on this weeks palette at Color Combos Galore (#174). I decided that The Color Room's palette was too masculine this week and I really didn't feel inspired so I gave this super feminine palette a go.

Here is my take on the palette and designers challenge..

You'd think with all that pink in there I should have cluttered the whole page with flowers right? Well...no..I didn't...I kind of froze with this layout. Still it feels very simple to me.

It stayed on my desk for about 3 days and I couldn't do anything else to it. I was stuck on what the message on this layout should be. I printed out the photo in the hope of doing a layout about my daughters little sweet mouth..she has the cutest, most sweet lips and I kiss her to death. But then...I just couldn't get it out. I don't like to do layouts just for the sake of doing them.  I dont like just doing 'pretty' layouts...but sometimes its how it goes right?

So here it is.

I misted a white Bazzill sheet with  a Heidi Swapp mask and some Glimmer Mist..it kinda made my page look bumpy but what are you going to?

Supply List:
Websters Pages Sweet Season- papers, fabric ribbons, letters, journalling cards and fabric fancies (yeah...i went crazy and bought the whole collection LOL)
Dusty Attic chipboard butterflies
Prima lace trim
Prima Flowers
Lily Bee Design tulle flower
Martha Stewart Vintage Doily punch

I think I might give this photo another go and see what I get. Thanks for stopping by! I appreciate it so much.

Bye for now. Nadia.

Bo Bunny Card..

Hi there!

Here is a card that I made with some Bo Bunny Peacock Lane bits and pieces that I had left over from another project. I made this card for the current Bo Bunny Card challenge which had to be based on this sketch..

I have just the right person in mind to send this to...its someone that reads this blog and I know would appreciate it.

Hope all is well where you are,

'till next time, Nadia.

2 layouts to share with you...

Here are 2 layouts that I wanted to share with you...

This is for last weeks palette over at The Color Room. It is a layout of my daughter Maria Elena and her most favourite pre school teacher.

I have used heaps of Prima flowers and butterflies, together with a Kaiser birdcage and Dusty Attic swirl chipboard.

and here is another layout for Color Combos Galore, a challenge site that has been going for a while now but this is the first time I have taken part. This layout is again about Maria Elena at her first ever dance concert.

Here is a close up of that gorgeous purple flower by Pretty Petals

Why don't you check out the Crate Paper blog here. If you scroll down a bit you might see a name you recognise there. That layout was for the first ever Get Picky challenge.

Hope you have a great weekend!

'till next time, Nadia.
